There are 434 dogs in Marion County.

Next Monday is St. Valentine’s Day. And those of you who have any old grudge to gratify should be hunting up a valentine with a long nose and palm leaf ears.

Among the excellent sidewalks lately laid and being laid in Marion Centre we may especially mention those in front of the premises of Dr. Rogers, Mr. Frazer, and the Livery Stable.

Those are substantial, excellent improvements, gentlemen. And every pedestrian should rise up and call you blessed.

Henry Kable will erect immediately a handsome little dwelling on his lot at the corner of Santa Fe Ave. and 2nd St.

Henry will exert himself to make this the best house of its size in the county. And Henry is that kind of workman, you know.

To allay excitement, we may add that Henry positively affirms that he is building that house to rent.

We regret to learn that diphtheria has appeared in Risley Township. Edward, son of Wm. H. Call, a bright boy of 9 years, died of that malady on the 19th, and another child in the same family is attacked.

Col. Hobletzell was in town Tuesday. Like other Peabody folks, he thinks the county seat — or a county seat — will be located at Peabody.

We have noticed Messers. Cooper, Getty, Ferrier, Harris, and others from Peabody in town this week, but not one of them attempted to take the county seat away this time.
