Two 15-minute parking stalls in the center of several downtown blocks will be marked off soon in order to help shoppers. The Chamber of Commerce asked the city commission for these limited time spots to help the parking problem. Many shoppers want to stop for a few minutes only, and have a time finding a parking place.

Dr. James Albert Wheeler, prominent Newton pediatrician and a former Marion resident will be the principal speaker at the afternoon program on Old Settlers Day, Sept. 17.

The popular Record column, “Mostly Malarkey,” written by Bill Meyer, has again won first place honors for “excellence in column writing,” in an annual contest conducted by the newspapers of the state.

Approximately 230 women met in the city building basement Tuesday for the annual Community Guild banquet. The script for the program, with modernized Mother Goose tales, was written and directed by Mrs. W.K. Holmes, assisted by Mrs. Monette Avery and Mrs. Leroy Riggs. The modern Mother Goose characters were portrayed by several local women.

Starting this year, MHS class reunions of the “10 year” classes will be an annual feature of the Old Settlers’ Day celebration. This year, the classes of 1953, 1943, 1933, 1923, 1913, and 1903 will be spotlighted.

Jim Keazer, who was injured seriously in an automobile accident Aug. 14, is recovering nicely from surgery Sept. 9 at St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.
