O.F. Herbert, Peabody, was elected last week to be chairman of the county commissioners. He will succeed Herb Hiebert of Hillsboro. Edward Navrat, Marion, was re-elected chairman of the board of social welfare.

Riddle Quarries Inc., producer of agricultural limestone, rock aggregate, and other limestone product, has been sold lock, stock, and barrel to Hallett Construction Co. with headquarters in Crosby, Minnesota.

Suzanna Carmichael, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Carmichael of Lindsborg, and Jon Thole, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Thole of Marion, were married Dec. 28 in a ceremony at Trinity Methodist Church, Lindsborg.

Births announced in this issue include a daughter, Kimberly Kay, born Jan. 16 to Mr. and Mrs. Don Buethe; a son, Jeffrey Alan, born Jan. 18 to Mr. and Mrs. Bill Burkholder; a daughter, Melanie Dawn, born Jan. 19 to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Conyers; a son, Rodney Dean, born Jan. 18 to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jirak; and a daughter, Brenda Marie, born to Mr. and Mrs. Roger Hiebert.

This week’s basketball spotlight features 5-foot-7 Marion High School junior Jim Magee. Aside from his excellent playing, Jim’s good sportsmanship and high spirits are evident throughout any game. His parents are Dr. and Mrs. Charles R. Magee.

There was only one winner in this week’s Marion Cash Days drawing. Mrs. Jerry Harrod, Marion, received $20 while Mrs. Maurie Frazier missed $35 and Jerald Schwemmer and David H. Bowers each missed $10.
