At a routine meeting Monday afternoon of Marion City Commission, the VFW Auxiliary received permission to erect a cannon in Central Park if they so desire.
Two hundred or more Marion County 4-Hers are expected to be here Saturday to participate in the annual 4-H Day. A full program of demonstrations, model meetings, talks, musical numbers, dramatics, stunts, and other things in which the 4-H’ers will participate is planned.
Several Marion friends went to Topeka for a pleasant outing Saturday including dinner and the Hank Thompson stage show. The group included Mr. and Mrs. Dale Christensen, Lois Shea, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Klose, Virgil Gooding, and Mr. and Mrs. Rex Seibel.
A clearance sale at Marion Hardware advertises an 11.8 cubic foot GE refrigerator for $159.95, a 30-inch GE electric range for $249.95, a GE washer for $189.95, a GE dryer for $119.95, a GE movable dishwasher for $229.95, and a GE chest freezer for $249.95.
High on the county priority list will be a new bridge to replace the old Red Bridge over Clear Creek just north of Marion on the Cedar St. road. The old bridge was built well before the turn of the century and has carried heavy traffic for years. County workers soon will start replacing it.
Ten Marion Boy Scouts were honored Monday evening in conjunction with the Cub Scout Blue and Gold Banquet.
Five First Class scouts who made Star Scout ranking are Lance Alexander, James Mayginnes, Raymon Mayginnes, Charles McElwain, and Terry Plenert. Five scouts who advanced to First Class Scout were Mark Applegate, Mike Bredemeier, Billy Finke, Steve Fillipp, and Richard Wiebe.
