These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

260th Rd. west of Remington Rd.

Swerving to miss a coyote that was chasing an opossum at 3:29 p.m. Dec. 24, Kassandra A. Cunningham, 18, McPherson, lost control of her 2001 Buick Regal, according to one of eight accident reports released Friday by the sheriff’s department.

The car, which careened off the road to the right, sustained disabling damage to its driver’s side, undercarriage, and right rear and was towed.

Two 15-year-olds — Landon M. Justice and Mirandah L. Pawloski of different Hillsboro addresses — were passengers.

Cunningham, who deputy Bruce Burke’s report states was driving too fast for conditions, was cited for speeding.

90th Rd. west of Alamo Rd.

Attempting to avoid a deer at 4:27 a.m. Dec. 30, Anthony J. Carter Jr., 52, Kansas City, Missouri, overcorrected and drove a 2024 International LT semi into the right ditch, where it flipped on its side and skidded to a stop.

The semi, owned by the Yellow and Blue 1998 trucking firm of Chicago, sustained disabling damage to its right side and front and was towed.

Sunflower Rd. south of 170th Rd.

Madyson N. Goossen, 20, Peabody, hit a deer at 7:18 p.m. Dec. 30 with her 2020 GMC Terrain.

Damage to the front left of her sport-utility vehicle was characterized as minor.

US-56 west of Alamo Rd.

Kawliga E. Zimmerman, 39, Leavenworth, was rushed to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, after a tire blew out at 10:07 p.m. Dec. 30 on his 2010 Ford Escape and the SUV careened into the right ditch, striking a culvert.

The SUV, owned by Kelsey A. Martin, Paola, was estimated to be destroyed.

US-50 east of Alfalfa Rd.

Gary D. Potter, 79, Emporia, hit two deer at 7:50 a.m. Jan. 2 with his 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.

The pickup sustained disabling damage to its left front, hood, and undercarriage and was towed.

Gary D. Potter Jr., 61, and Cindy L. Potter, 60, of the same Strong City address, were passengers in the pickup.

US-56 west of Alamo Rd.

Twelve hours afterward, Kevin Geren, 64, Marion, told a deputy that he hit a deer at 8:15 a.m. Jan. 2 with his 2004 Buick Century.

The car remained drivable with damage to its front and windshield.

US-56/77 south of 250th Rd.

Justin M. Toulant, 37, Herington, hit a deer at 8:30 p.m. Jan. 7 with his 2013 Dodge Avenger.

The car sustained disabling damage to its front third and was towed.

US-77 south of K-256 / 190th Rd.

Brian R. Morales, 26, Los Angeles, hit a goose at 9:43 p.m. Jan. 7 with his 2015 Ford Mustang.

The car sustained disabling damage to its front and was towed.

MARION

US-56 at Cedar St. / Sunrise Rd.

Unable because of the setting sun to see that a westbound car was stopped to turn left onto Sunrise Rd., Bradley W. Wenger, 18, Moundridge drove a 2018 Ford F-250 into the rear of a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu owned and driven by Trinda L. Humphrey, 35, Marion.

Humphrey complained of whiplash, a sprained wrist, and a bruised leg and was checked by Marion ambulance attendants but not taken to a hospital. She later went by private vehicle. Her car sustained disabling damage to its rear and was towed.

Wenger’s truck, pulling a trailer, also sustained disabling damage to its front and was towed. The pickup is owned by Skyline Builders of Hesston. Carson J. Jantz, 18, Moundridge, was a passenger.
