Centre boys are lone winners

Staff writers

Centre evened its season record at .500 Friday by more than doubling up the score on Wakefield.

But both Marion and Peabody-Burns extended losing streaks, Peabody-Burns by a very lopsided score.

Goessel, which has won only one game this season, lost by nearly 40.

Winless Hillsboro didn’t lose again, but it had Friday off.

Centre

The Cougars caught Wakefield on the road Friday night, winning 35-15.

Brady Idleman led with 17 points. Micah Carlson scored nine and had four steals. Both Colby Diepenbrock and Noah Brunner scored three with 11 rebounds pulled down between the two.

Centre (4-4) will be on the road Friday against Elyria Christian (4-6).

Marion

Marion’s losing streak reached five games with a 53-30 loss at home Friday night to Hutchinson Trinity.

“We are trying to get back into the groove of things,” coach Kevin Dasenbrock said. “The boys play extremely hard. It won’t be long until it all starts to fall together.”

Carson Krause led the Warriors with nine points. Jackson Howard scored seven. Both Hugh Guetterman and Kadon Mercer scored five.

The Warriors (2-7) will be on the road Friday against Inman (5-3).

Goessel

Only three Goessel players found their way into the scoring column Friday at Solomon.

The Bluebirds held a 7-6 lead after three minutes, but the Gorillas scored 20 consecutive points and led 28-10 at the end of the first quarter.

Turnovers doomed the Bluebirds’ chances of catching up as Solomon took a 42-16 lead at halftime.

Solomon led 56-22 at the end of three periods and won by a final score of 66-28.

Trey Gaddis led the Bluebirds with 12 points, Tanner Unruh followed with 10, and Kreed Smith ended with 6.

The Goessel boys are 1-1 in League play and 1-6 overall. They will be hosts Friday to Canton-Galva (7-2).

Peabody-Burns

The Warriors have lost three times in a row after their losing 81-26 Friday night against Little River.

The Peabody-Burns Warriors (1-5) will be back on the road again Friday against Wakefield (0-7).

Hillsboro

The Trojans (0-8) had Friday night off and will resume play Friday at home against Hesston (9-1)
