Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
JAN. 28
9:34 a.m. — A 76-year-old woman with poor circulation and leg pain at Parkside Homes duplexes in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
9:51 a.m. — An unresponsive 82-year-old woman at a home in the 200 block of N. Cedar St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded.
3:01 p.m. — A 79-year-old woman who fell at a home in the 300 block of S. Ash St. in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
JAN. 29
5:11 p.m. — A 92-year-old woman with a cardiac protein level often indicative of a heart attack was transferred by Marion ambulance from HCH to Wesley Woodlawn Hospital, Wichita. The call originally went to Hillsboro ambulance.
11:20 p.m. — A 67-year-old woman who fell in the 300 block of S. Ash St. was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
11:21 p.m. — Fire that engulfed a home in the 300 block of S. Berry St. in Lost Springs was battled for nearly 4½ hours by Lincolnville, Lost Springs, Ramona, Marion, Herington, and Tampa firefighters. Water was ferried from Centre High School. Marion and Tampa ambulances and the county emergency manager also responded.
11:43 p.m. — With all three ambulances busy, dispatchers repeatedly attempted to page Hillsboro first responders for a 76-year-old woman who fell at Grand Oaks Apartments in Hillsboro, but they received no answer for more than 10 minutes. Tampa ambulance was redirected there from the Lost Springs fire. Hillsboro ambulance finished its call, but attendants opted to return to theirs station and let Tampa ambulance handle the call so paramedics would remain available for other calls. Tampa ambulance arrived at 12:19 a.m., but the woman declined to be taken to a hospital.
THURSDAY
7:07 a.m. — A woman in her 70s who couldn’t get up from the floor at Marion Assisted Living was helped by Marion ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.
9:46 a.m. — A 70-year-old woman with chest pains and vomiting at Marion Assisted Living was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
10:15 a.m. — A medical alarm activated on behalf of a woman in the 500 block of S. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro was answered by Hillsboro ambulance attendants, but the woman did not want to be taken to a hospital.
11:27 a.m. — A smoky fire in a two-story home near 20th and Yarrow Rds. was battled for more than two hours by Burns, Florence, Peabody, and Whitewater firefighters. Marion ambulance and the county emergency manager also responded.
11:44 a.m. — A 75-year-old patient with an obstructed bowel was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Peabody Health and Rehab to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center. Tampa ambulance was ordered to stand by at Hillsboro in case of additional calls.
1 p.m. — An 81-year-old woman with stroke-like symptoms at Indian Guide Terrace apartments in Peabody was taken to St. Luke by Tampa ambulance, responding from Hillsboro.
4:30 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance and a first responder were dispatched for a grandfather who fell in snow outside a farmhouse near 80th and Nighthawk Rds., but the call was canceled before they arrived.
5:30 p.m. — A 71-year-old patient with cardiac issues was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley Woodlawn.
5:45 p.m. — A 15-year-old with a dislocated or broken ankle at the Hillsboro High School gymnasium was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. Tampa ambulance was ordered to stand by until 7:18 p.m. at Hillsboro in case of additional calls.
FRIDAY
8:14 a.m. — A woman who fell out of bed at a house in the 500 block of Wilson St. in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
1:28 p.m. — An unresponsive 56-year-old man with no pulse in a shed near 350th and Kanza Rds. was treated by Tampa and Hillsboro ambulance attendants, an ambulance supervisor, and two first responders before being taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. Herington firefighters initially were dispatched as well, but were told they wouldn’t be needed before they arrived.
6:22 p.m. — A 30-year-old woman with influenza at Grand Oaks Apartments in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
9:39 p.m. — A 93-year-old woman who fell and hurt her hip at Parkside Homes duplexes was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
SATURDAY
7:12 a.m. — An 83-year-old man who fell and hit his head at Salem Home in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded.
7:25 p.m. — A 52-year-old man breathing abnormally at Homestead Senior Residences in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.
8:50 p.m. — A 59-year-old man needing surgery was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health.
10:52 p.m. — A runaway 15-year-old boy with possible frostbite was found by deputies near 340th Rd., taken to the Lincolnville fire station, and then transported by Tampa ambulance to St. Luke. Hearing the call, Lincolnville first responders volunteered to go to the fire station and provide initial care for at least 15 minutes until the ambulance arrived.
SUNDAY
1:56 p.m. — An 80-year-old man was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to NMC Health.
10:43 p.m. — A 49-year-old woman with cardiac issues was transferred by Marion ambulance to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.
MONDAY
10:33 a.m. — Peabody firefighters found no leak after a natural gas leak was reported on Newell Rd. north of US-50.
11:29 a.m. — Marion police and Marion ambulance were dispatched to St. Luke Medical Clinic for a 74-year-old woman suffering hallucinations and becoming combative. Hillsboro ambulance also responded.
11:41 a.m. — A 79-year-old woman who fell and broke her hip the night before at Bethesda Home in Goessel was taken to NMC Health by Moundridge ambulance because Hillsboro ambulance still was in Marion. A Goessel first responder provided care for nearly half an hour until the ambulance arrived.
3:46 p.m. — A 74-year-old woman with acute psychosis, presumably the same patient as from the 11:29 a.m. call, was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health.
6:10 p.m. — Marion firefighters washed down antifreeze spilled in a wreck at Roosevelt and Sherman Sts. in Marion.
