JUNE 30, 1876
The Fourth at this place promises to be a grand success. The historical address and poem are already prepared. The town will be handsomely decorated. A cannon has been ordered. Thirteen lady equestrians from Marion Centre will represent the original states. A beautiful young lady will personate the goddess of liberty. There will be fireworks and fun in profusion.
We don’t know how many states there are and can’t find anybody who does, but they will be represented by the sweetest young ladies in the country. That array of concentrated loveliness alone ought to attract every young man in the country to this celebration.
Lovers of the light fantastic toe, also other lovers and toes, will trip and be tripped in the evening at the park and in the hall over the new Cottonwood Valley Bank.
Parties are hereby notified that in pursuance of ordinance No. 6 at the City of Marion Centre, all dogs running at large on or after July 6, 1876, within the corporate limits of said city, upon which there is no tag indicating that the license tax of 1876 has been paid, shall be immediately shot.
By order of the city council
