Trash recycling will be established in Marion as soon as ordinances can be passed to implement a change in city utility rates. A proposal by Pure Country Environmental Systems, a Marion recycling business, will cost households $3 in addition to the current $9 monthly trash charge.

Marion Hardware is under new ownership and management. In January, Tom and Ken Koslowsky of Hillsboro purchased it from Jim Chamberland. They also own and operate Hillsboro Hardware.

Preliminary work began in Burns this past week on the movie, ”Mars Attacks,” directed by Tim Burton of
“Batman” fame.

Marion Chamber of Commerce ambassadors this week presented a welcome plaque to Brian Hedgecock of Aunt Matilda’s Pantry at 1204 E. Main St. and attended the grand opening of Kraft Korner’s new location at 402 E. Main St.

Marion County clerk and election officer Marquetta Eilerts has seen county politics up close and personal, and sometimes nasty. So, why is she running for 3rd District county commissioner?

“This county has a lot invested in me,” she said Thursday. “And I have a lot to offer the county.”

Hundreds of bald eagles make Marion County their winter home, perching in tall trees along the Cottonwood River and near Marion Reservoir. One of the big birds, symbol of American patriotism, is photographed in a tree at the west edge of Marion.
