Two major highway projects are scheduled to start this week. US-56/77 between K-150 and Lincolnville is being widened, and 14 miles of US-56 are being relocated around Marion and Hillsboro.

After a resident complained about people who park across sidewalks, city commissioners decided Monday that police officers should issue warnings for those who block sidewalks, which should be kept clear for pedestrians.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Burkholder were hosts for a party May 25 at their home in honor of the graduation of their son, Kevin, from Marion High School.

Birth announcements this week include Forrest Elton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hett of Wichita, born May 29; Mark Aaron, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Kelly of Salina, born June 2; and Jared Duane, son of Duane and Lori Kirkpatrick of Florence, born June 1.

The Marion High School class of 1971 had a reunion May 24 in Central Park and agreed to meet for another reunion, marking 20 years, during Old Settlers Day weekend of 1991.

Mary Elizabeth Holub, daughter of Theo and Dora Holub of Pilsen, was commissioned a second lieutenant Thursday in the Army Nurse Corps.

Centre High School senior Kirk Wyatt set a record Saturday of 22 feet 11.25 inches when he won the boys’ Class 2A long jump during a state track meet at Wichita State University.

Jim and Kaye Darrow, Traci and Michael were hosts for a family Care Bear birthday party Thursday at the Pizza Hut in honor of David Darrow’s fifth birthday.
