Area firefighters join battle

Marion County firefighters were deployed last week to assist with wildfires near Ashland in Clark County, sending a heavy brush truck and two firefighters as part of a statewide response.
A crew from Ramona staged in Dodge City late Tuesday, chief Nathan Brunner said, and remaining until Friday night.
Other firefighters came from Goessel and Lincolnville.
Ramona had offered its equipment for deployment in advance.
Crews operated on rotating 12-hour shifts, a common practice on large-scale incidents.
Local firefighters prepare for similar deployments, Brunner said, but the department’s priority remains maintaining resources at home.
“We want to make sure before we do that that we have adequate equipment resources available to our county,” he said.
