Jim Hett
Memorial services are planned for Saturday, May 18, for James W. Hett, better known as Jim, went to his heavenly home Sunday, May 12, 2024, from his home near Aulne with his loving wife, Carol, of almost 72 years and his daughter and her husband by his side.
Burial will be 10 a.m. at Marion Cemetery with a church service following at 11 a.m. at Aulne Bible Church.
He was the ninth of 10 children born to John and Rena (Conyers) Hett.
He was preceded in death by sons Tim and Rob; sisters Iva Unruh and Ellen Darrow; brothers Ron, Russ, Tom, Ern, Walt, and John; and infant sister Edith.
Family members include daughters Kimberly Metcalf and husband Michael of Kansas City Kansas; Mirandee Hett of Marion; and Collene McDonald of Emporia; grandchildren Valeree Ware, Adam Hett, July Read, and Austin Metcalf; great-grandchildren Bryden, Camryn, DeClan and Brooks Ware, Florence and Charles Read, and Bennet Hett; and sisters-in-law Darlene Hiebert (and husband Jim) of St. Augustine, Florida, and LaWanda Oblander of Newton. He lived his entire life in the Aulne community, attending the Aulne church every Sunday as long as he was able — singing, teaching, and sometimes even preaching.
He attended Aulne Grade School and graduated from Marion High School with the class of 1945.
On May 25, 1952, he married Carol Oblander. They established their home just a mile from where he was born. Together they raised three children, Tim, Kim, and Rob.
His was a busy life with farming, livestock, shearing sheep, Caterpillar construction work, working at Johns-Manville in McPherson, and serving in many positions with the church and community.
He always was thankful for what he had and firmly believed in counting his blessings. He loved singing, memorizing scripture, and reading.
