LaVern Stucky

A celebration of life for LaVern D. Stucky, 87, who died Sept. 29, 2025, doing what he loved, farming, will be 11 a.m. June 20, 2026, at Bethel College Mennonite Church, North Newton.

LaVern loved a good joke. He had no desire to be remembered as a saint.

He was known as a demanding educator in the Peabody-Burns school district — a standard his daughters felt acutely when they were his students.

Yet for his gruffness, sentimentality poured out of his pen, as he wrote poems to mark milestones and tucked lovely notes into birthday cards. His greatest softness was reserved for his beloved Marilyn (Goebel).

He leaves behind a legacy of faith in action and a family he adored, especially daughters Cynthia Beth and Janelle Unrau and their families.

He was preceded in death by Marilyn and daughter Aileen Joy.
