Norma Woerz

Family will gather with friends at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Marion Christian Church for a memorial service led by Pastor Carl Helm for Norma Jean Woerz, 94, who passed away Thursday, May 9, 2024, at St. Luke Living Center.

She will be laid to rest in Marion Cemetery.

Norma’s life began Oct. 13, 1929, in Marion. Her parents were Claude and Vera (Thomas) Province. She graduated in 1947 from Marion High School in 1947 and worked briefly as a telephone operator before she was married.

Norma was united in marriage to Harold Woerz on March 27, 1949, in Marion.

She was a lifelong member of Marion Christian Church and the Christian Women’s Fellowship.

She was an avid bridge and pinochle player and a huge fan of the KU Jayhawks and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Her greatest joy was her family, including her children, Jay (and wife Becky) Woerz of Emporia, Rae Jean (and husband Jeff) Woerz-Commerford of Americus, Diane (and husband Steve) Sams of Marion, and Cyndi Woerz of Dallas; grandchildren Amy (and husband Ty) Sober, Jody Britt, Jerrod (and wife Rupel) Commerford, Cody (and wife Libby) Nelson, Cory (and wife Emma) Nelson, Casey (and husband Javyn) Nelson, Lauren Ghighi, Emma Ghighi, Tyler (and wife Courtney) Sams, and Erica (and husband Mark) Folcik; and great-grandchildren Houston, Dietra, Devon, Ayden, Rope, Tripp, Tandice, Miles, Graham, Caylen, Saylor, and Kenzie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters Dorothy and Vera Belle, and brothers Ben and Junior.

Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Marion, is serving the family.
