ACTIVITY REPORTS
Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies generally are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.
HILLSBORO
June 15 — Police patrolled downtown on foot, helped a sheriff’s deputy serve a court document, and talked to a resident about a civil matter.
June 16 — A dog was reported loose at Lincoln St. and Grand Ave. Police gave a transient a ride to Canton and helped a resident with a family issue. A driver unaware of a blown trailer tire was stopped at US-56 and Falcon Rd.
June 17 — A dog was reported loose in the 300 block of N. Main St. A crosswalk on D St. was monitored during a Tabor College camp. Police helped a driver with a blown tire at Main and A Sts., gave another driver directions, and received a traffic complaint from the 200 block of S. Washington St.
Thursday — A dog was reported loose at Countryside Feed. Police talked to a resident about a possible violation of an order of protection from abuse. A building owner was notified of an open door in the 200 block of S. Main St. A report of a disturbance in the 500 block of S. Main St. was determined to be an argument. Police talked to a resident about a civil matter and received a parking complaint from the 500 block of W. Grand Ave.
Friday — A caller complained of a driver recklessly driving left of center on US-56 from McPherson. Police met with a resident about a child-custody issue and received a dog complaint from the 300 block of N. Lincoln St.
Saturday — Dogs were reported loose in the 200 block of S. Cedar St. and at Grand Ave. and Lincoln St. A caller complained about a person driving fast and with loud exhaust in the 300 block of N. Adams St. A resident reported a Facebook scam. A report of a disturbance in the 800 block of E. D St. was determined to be unfounded. A search revealed no problems after a back door alarm sounded at Dollar General.
Sunday — Police met with a resident about a civil matter and received a report of reckless driving eastbound on US-56.
MARION
June 15 — No problems were found in checking on a report of a disturbance in the 200 block of Forest St. Police provided unspecified help to court services officers in the 400 block of N. Lincoln St. A driver was warned about an equipment violation at US-56 and Cedar St.
June 16 — A possible threat was reported in the 300 block of N. Freeborn St. A possible fraud was reported at the sheriff’s office. No problems were found in checking on a report of a disturbance in the 100 block of Washington St. Police responded in place of sheriff’s deputies to someone asking for unspecified help near 140th and Nighthawk Rds.
June 17 — Disconnected 911 calls from the 100 block of S. Cedar St. and the 900 block of Melvin St. were attributed to misdials. A dog loose on Locust St. was taken to a veterinary clinic. Possible trespassing was reported in the 100 block of W. Santa Fe St. Two drivers were warned for equipment violations in traffic stops at 3rd and Welch Sts. and on US-56 at Timber Rd.
Thursday — Police checked on a child walking along US-56 near Timber Rd. A driver was warned for speeding at Main and Lincoln Sts.
Friday — Michael J. Sanchez, 39, Florence, was arrested on a Morris County warrant in the parking lot of Casey’s General Store. A disconnected 911 call from Central Park was attributed to a misdial. Police talked to juveniles at the sheriff’s office about the town’s curfew. A driver was warned for an equipment violation after police said they had probable cause and searched the driver’s vehicle. In addition, Marion’s drug-sniffing police dog was employed at a traffic stop by a sheriff’s deputy on US-56 near K-256.
Saturday — A car hit and killed a deer near US-56 and Industrial St. Three drivers were warned for speeding or equipment violations on US-56, one at Cedar St. and two at Timber Rd.
Sunday — Marion’s drug-sniffing police dog again was employed at a traffic stop by a sheriff’s deputy in Florence. Three drivers were warned for speeding on US-56 at Timber Rd.
