Rich had several medical issues throughout his lifetime, and his body was not able to fight his last brief illness.
He was born April 11, 1952, in Newton to Ralph and Barbara (Mohn) Lehrman, went to school in Newton, and graduated from Newton High School in 1970.
After graduation, he attended the University of Kansas for two years, transferred to Kansas State Teachers College (now Emporia State University), and graduated in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
While a student at KU, he met Marcia Steinel. They were married May 14, 1972, and had three children together.
He worked as a staff accountant with Mize, Houser, Mellinger, and Kimes for about six months and then went to work for Dillon’s in Manhattan as a meat cutter, a job he had while going to school at Emporia.
He had a 35-year career with Dillon’s as a meat cutter, meat market manager, and assistant manager.
During the 35 years he was transferred from Manhattan to Olathe to Lenexa to Topeka to McPherson, and then back to Manhattan, where he worked until he retired in 2013.
He was a long-time member of Grace Baptist Church and had been involved in men’s Bible study groups and small group ministry and as a middle school Sunday school teacher and a leader in Pioneer clubs and Awana.
He had a unique sense of humor and loved to make people laugh.
Rich was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Conrad and Lois Steinel; his grandparents; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is survived by his wife of the home; sons Christopher Lehrman (and wife Kristine) and Matthew Lehrman (and wife Kara); daughter Rebekah Stowe (and husband James); grandchildren Kayleigh Lehrman, Olivia Brea (and husband Lucas), Robby Lehrman, Elisha Lehrman, Parker Stowe, and Sadie Stowe; his beloved dog, Rylee; and several cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Grace Baptist Church.
